The Safer Antivirus: Bitdefender or Webroot?

Bitdefender and Webroot use an entirely different approach to detect any digital threat. But both are reliable options, which is evident from the fact that both are Editor’s Choice winners. One can choose between them by keeping in my mind a few common factors necessary for the successful working of any Antivirus software.

Speed Test

Behavior-based detection is a relatively slow but effective way to detect malwares. It helps in detecting the malwares that haven’t been named yet. Webroot is efficient in detecting malware through behavior-based techniques and the time required to do so makes it slow. And the lab test, which was expecting speed, gives less score to Webroot for this parameter. On the other hand, Bitdefender scores excellent points from multiple labs because of their quick signature-based detection.

Malware Protection

Bitdefender scored an impressive score in providing 99 % protection from the dangerous URLs. Webroot scored less than Bitdefender, but this could be because of different protection model as Webroot doesn’t exhibit its full capabilities unless a program is launched. The test after launching the malware increased the score of Webroot to 97% from 80%.

Antiphishing Test

Phishing sites are those fraudulent sites that impersonate banks, shopping sites, or any other site to retrieve your data. They adapt the most convenient way to dupe you by pretending to be an authentic site instead of wasting time in coding malwares. Both Bitdefender and Webroot fared well in the Antiphishing test with a minor difference of 2%, where Bitdefender scored 99%, and Webroot scored 97%.

Affordability

Bitdefender offers a three-license subscription for approx $60. Paying an extra $20 will earn you 10 Bitdefender licenses. The same three-license subscription will cost you around $50. So if you use more than a device, it would be a profitable deal to purchase the Webroot’s subscription.

Lightweight and Swift

With endless files and programs stuffed in your device, lightweight Antivirus software is quite a sigh of relief. Despite being powerful Antivirus protection, Webroot weighs only 4.7 MB while Bitdefender weighs 11.9 MB. Thus Webroot will occupy less space on your storage device. As far as the scanning is concerned, Bitdefender takes approximately two hours to thoroughly scan the device. Webroot, on the other hand, scans the entire device in just an instant.

After analyzing the overall results, it wouldn’t be wrong to conclude that Webroot’s unique detection style and quick scanning makes it a clear winner. Still, the competition was close, so it depends on your requirements and affordability to choose either of them. To learn more about the Webroot products, visit the site webroot.com/safe.
