Samsung Galaxy S21: All You Need to Know About the Midrange Phone

Samsung is known for manufacturing the best flagship and mid-range phones. Every year they come up with innovative ideas to consistently push the technological boundaries and create the best possible product. Therefore, it is not surprising that Samsung is one of the few companies that is dominating the global smartphone market. This year is no different as Samsung recently launched S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra. However, there has been a change in its strategy as Samsung has decided to become aggressive on the pricing of their phones. The new Samsung Galaxy S21 can trick anyone to believe that it’s a flagship phone. But Galaxy S21 starts at $799.99 and comes with a 6.2-inch screen.

Samsung has also launched a Plus version of the same phone with a 6.7-inch display that costs $999.99. Although the starting price is high the smart thing to do will be to spend an extra $50 to get the models with 256GB storage. The flagship phone this year is the Galaxy S21 Ultra, which costs $1,199 for the 128GB version which is on the expensive side. However, the people looking for a good mid-range phone who don’t have the money to buy the flagship phone can go with Galaxy S21. The midrange phone comes with almost the same features at a much cheaper rate.

Samsung Galaxy S21 comes with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 which is one of the fastest processors one can get. The mid-range phone now has much better battery life. People who have used Samsung know that poor battery has been one of the key issues with most Samsung midrange and flagship phones but Galaxy S21’s performs much better than previous versions. However, it still has a long way to go. The Snapdragon 888 processor is lightning fast and it will help support both kinds of 5G in the US.

As far as the display is concerned Samsung has dropped the screen resolution from 1440p to 1080p on both Plus and regular versions of the phone. They have also changed the curved edges to flat ones which a lot of people would like. The new Galaxy S21 comes with screens that have a high refresh rate of 120Hz. It means that animations and scrolling experience on the phone will be quite smooth. Although Samsung has decided to do a few downgrades the screen is still one of the best at its price range.

There is hardly any difference between the hardware of the camera system on last year’s Galaxy S20 and this year’s Galaxy S21, but the real difference lies in the software. The company appears to have worked hard to update its processing to improve the quality of the photos in certain situations. The low-light quality of the photos has improved significantly.

Apart from the addition of a minor sensor swap on the camera, the hardware has hardly changed. The main camera on the Galaxy S21 comes with the main sensor of 12 megapixels with OIS, the ultrawide also comes with a 12 megapixels sensor and has a 120-degree wide field of view. The telephoto lens comes with 3x optical zoom and offers up to 30X digital zoom with its 30-megapixel sensor. The front camera is just as good as the one in Galaxy S20. In the US market, the only phone that can compete with the camera of Galaxy S21 is the $699 Google Pixel 5. But surprisingly, S21 takes better photos. It means that Galaxy S21 has the best camera in its price range.

Galaxy S21 is nowhere near as good as Galaxy Ultra which has a 10X optical lens. However, the 3X optical zoom lens still does better than Google Pixel which has a 7X zoom lens. Samsung also has better video quality. One can shoot up to 8K cameras. The pro modes on videos and photos offer a lot of options and help users in getting the most out of the camera.

So, Galaxy S21 comes with a lot of features that make it a great midrange phone. People who are looking to buy a phone with flagship features should go with the Galaxy S21 since it has so much to offer.
